Gladstone returns as Prime Minister

William Ewart Gladstone, with the support of the Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP), was returned as prime minister following the 1892 general election. Due to his reliance on the IPP's votes to keep him in power, Gladstone kept Home Rule at the top of the agenda for the new government.
